Repair my phone Is it worth fixing?

Twenty-four miles is a whole afternoon

Tunkhannock is about 24 miles from Scranton. On a good run that is half an hour each way — and getting a phone fixed the usual way means doing it twice, with a wait in the middle and no phone for most of it.

A short stretch of actual repair work, wrapped in the better part of an afternoon and a tank of fuel. That is the bit nobody quotes you for.

I do the driving instead. I set up in my vehicle outside your house or your workplace, fix it while you get on with your day, and hand it back before I leave.

If you work shifts, the parking lot is the easy option

A workplace parking lot is often simpler than a driveway — you know exactly when your break is, and I can be there for it. It is one of the more common ways people book me at this distance.

It works the same for a site with a few people on it. If two or three workmates have cracked screens, that is one trip and one travel fee between all of you, not one each.

What it costs to come out here

Travel to Tunkhannock & Wyoming County$45
Screen replacementfrom $125
Battery replacementfrom $120
Charging port clean & checkfrom $35
Back glassfrom $115
Diagnosisalways free

That is the 20 to 35 mile band. The $45 is charged once per visit, never per phone, and $50 is the most travel will ever be, anywhere I go. One flat total before I set off, nothing added at the door.

Factoryville, Nicholson, Meshoppen — same run

The Route 6 and Route 29 corridors are one trip for me. Factoryville is closer in than Tunkhannock, so it is the $35 band; Nicholson and Meshoppen sit either side, and with Tunkhannock they are all $45.

If you are out past Meshoppen toward the Susquehanna line, text me the town first — some of it is right on the edge of the 35-mile band and I would rather quote you correctly than surprise you.

What I fix

Cracked screens are the most common call, and the cheapest moment to fix one is before the crack reaches the touch layer. Batteries are the repair people put off longest and regret least. Charging ports are the one where the answer is often a $35 clean rather than a repair at all. And back glass costs very different amounts by model.

iPhone 8 through 17 Pro Max, Samsung Galaxy A and S series, Google Pixel. Price is by model — check yours in the booking tool and you get the real number before I leave Scranton.

Before you buy a new phone, check the port

The most common call I get is a phone that has stopped charging, or only charges at an angle. Most people assume the port has failed. Most of the time it has not.

Pocket lint compacts into the bottom of the port, packed a little further every time the cable goes in, until the connector cannot seat. The port is fine. It is just full.

That is a $35 clean and about ten minutes, not a replacement from $115 — and worth trying yourself first. Power the phone off and clear it gently with a wooden toothpick.

At 24 miles that is worth saying plainly: if a two-minute fix at your kitchen table solves it, you have saved the repair and the travel both. I would rather tell you that on the phone than drive out and charge you for it.

How it works

1

Tell me what broke

Your phone, the problem, your town. Two taps and you get a price with the $45 travel already in it.

2

I drive out

Home, work, the parking lot on your break. Free diagnosis when I arrive — and if it is not worth fixing you hear that before I start.

3

Fixed at your door

An iPhone screen or battery is usually fixed in 30 to 60 minutes after I get to you; other phones and repairs can take longer. I test every function with you before I hand it back.

Questions, answered

Do you come out to Tunkhannock?

Yes. Tunkhannock is about 24 miles from Scranton on Route 6 and 11, which puts it in the 20 to 35 mile band. Travel is $45 once per visit and the diagnosis is free.

Can you meet me at work instead of at home?

Yes, and a lot of people prefer it. A workplace parking lot is usually easier than a driveway. I set up in my own vehicle and you go back inside until it’s done.

Do you cover the rest of Wyoming County?

Yes. Factoryville, Nicholson, Meshoppen and the Route 6 and Route 29 corridors are all inside the run. Wyoming County is one of the six counties I cover.

How much is the travel fee to Tunkhannock?

$45, charged once per visit and never per phone. Two phones in the same house or two workmates at the same site, and the $45 is still paid once.

My phone stopped charging. Does that mean a new port?

Usually not. Nine times out of ten it’s compacted pocket lint, and that is a $35 clean rather than a port replacement from $115. You’ll hear which one it is before you pay anything.

What if it turns out not to be worth fixing?

Then I tell you, and the diagnosis still costs nothing. I may make a cash offer for the phone instead. I’d rather lose the job than sell you a repair on a phone that isn’t worth it.

Nearby and on the same run: Factoryville, Dallas & the Back Mountain and Montrose. The full list is on the service area page.
