The mountain is the whole problem

Everything else on the Back Mountain works. You have the schools, the fields, the lake, the Dallas shops, the Sunday market. What you do not have is a phone repair counter — and the moment you need one, that gap turns into Route 309 down the hill.

It is not the miles. It is that you do the drive twice. Down to a counter in Wilkes-Barre or Kingston, hand the phone over, back up the mountain without it, then down and up again when it is ready. Two descents and two climbs for a short stretch of actual work, and most of a day where nobody can reach you.

I do the driving instead. I set up in my vehicle in your driveway — or in the school lot, or at your work — fix it while you carry on with whatever you were doing, and hand it back before I pull away. You never go down the hill and you are never without the phone.

What it costs to come up here

Dallas is about 26 miles from Scranton, which is the 20 to 35 mile band. The $45 is charged once per visit, never per phone — two phones in the same house and you pay it once. $50 is the most travel will ever be, anywhere I go.

You get one flat total before I leave Scranton. Nothing is added at the door.

The lake counts as the same trip

Harveys Lake, Sweet Valley, Noxen, Lehman, Idetown and the roads around the shore are all inside this run at the same fee. Summer calls at a camp are normal work for me, not a special arrangement — I can repair on a porch, a tailgate or a dock as easily as at a kitchen table, and I bring my own light and power.

Worth knowing if you are booking for a house with more than one phone in it, or if a neighbor needs something looked at the same day — the travel fee only gets paid once, so the second phone travels free.

What I fix

Cracked screens are the most common call, and the cheapest moment to fix one is before the crack reaches the touch layer. Batteries are the repair people put off longest and regret least. Charging ports are the one where the answer is often a $35 clean rather than a repair at all. And back glass costs very different amounts depending on the model.

iPhone 8 through 17 Pro Max, Samsung Galaxy A and S series, Google Pixel. Price is by model, not a flat rate — check yours in the booking tool and you get the real number before I set off.

Before you buy a new phone, check the port

The single most common call I get is a phone that has stopped charging, or that only charges if you hold the cable at a particular angle. Most people assume the port has failed. Most of the time it has not.

What has usually happened is that pocket lint has compacted into the bottom of the port, packed a little further every time the cable went in, until the connector can no longer seat properly. The port is fine. It is just full.

That is a $35 clean and about ten minutes, not a port replacement from $115 — and it is worth trying yourself before you call anyone. Power the phone off and clear it gently with a wooden toothpick. If that fixes it, you have saved the whole job and the travel with it.

At 26 miles that matters more, not less. I would rather tell you on the phone that it is probably lint than drive up the mountain to sell you something you did not need.

How it works

1

Tell me what broke

Your phone, the problem, your town. Two taps and you get a price with the $45 travel already in it.

2

I drive out

Home, work, the lake, the school lot — wherever is easiest. Free diagnosis when I arrive, and if it is not worth fixing you hear that before I start.

3

Fixed at your door

An iPhone screen or battery is usually fixed in 30 to 60 minutes after I get to you; other phones and repairs can take longer. I test every function with you before I hand it back.

Questions, answered

Do you come up to Dallas and the Back Mountain?

Yes. Dallas is about 26 miles from Scranton, which puts it in the 20 to 35 mile band. Travel is $45, charged once per visit, and the diagnosis is free.

Which Back Mountain towns are included?

Dallas, Shavertown, Trucksville, Harveys Lake, Lehman, Noxen, Sweet Valley and the roads between them are all the same run at the same travel fee.

How much is travel to Dallas PA?

$45, charged once per visit and never per phone. Two phones at the same address pay the travel once. $50 is the highest travel fee anywhere I go.

Can you come to Harveys Lake in the summer?

Yes, and lake calls are a normal job rather than a special one. Same travel fee as Dallas, and I can work at a camp, a dock or a driveway as easily as at a house.

My phone charges only at an angle. Is the port broken?

Usually not. Most of the time it’s compacted pocket lint holding the cable off the contacts, and that is a $35 clean rather than a port replacement from $115. Try a wooden toothpick with the phone powered off before you call anyone.

Do I have to drive down to Wilkes-Barre instead?

No — that’s the point of this. Down the mountain and back twice, with a wait in between, is most of an afternoon. I do the driving and you keep the phone the whole time.

Nearby and on the same run: Mountain Top, Nanticoke, Tunkhannock and Pittston. The full list is on the service area page.
